Account: Hehaka Sapa (Black Elk)
Foreword: Joseph Epes Brown
Introduction: Frithjof Schuon
Portuguese translation: Anderson M. A. Bertolli
This Portuguese edition presents Black Elk’s account of Lakota tradition and the Chanumpa, the sacred pipe. It describes the seven rites received by the Sioux, including the keeping of the soul, inipi, the vision quest, the Sun Dance, kinship, the preparation of a girl, and the ball-throwing rite. The pipe is presented as a symbolic centre linking the Great Spirit, the Earth, living beings, and the community.
